Common ant species

Carpenter ants

Among the largest ant pests found around Saskatchewan homes and buildings. They often nest in damp, decaying, or previously water-damaged wood and may leave behind sawdust-like shavings as they excavate galleries. They are commonly noticed around window frames, wall voids, rooflines, and other areas with moisture issues.

Pavement ants

Small dark ants that commonly nest under sidewalks, driveway edges, patio stones, and foundation cracks. Indoors, they often show up in kitchens and lower levels while following food sources. Outside, you may notice them trailing along concrete joints and entry points near the base of the building.

Little black ants

Tiny dark ants that often trail toward sweets, crumbs, pet food, and other easy food sources. They are commonly seen along counters, baseboards, window sills, and entry cracks. Because of their size, they can be easy to miss until steady indoor trails begin to form.

Pharaoh ants

Very small pale yellow to light brown ants that are especially important to identify correctly. In Saskatchewan they are mainly indoor pests and are often found in warm buildings such as apartments, multi-unit properties, commercial spaces, kitchens, utility areas, and wall voids. They can spread through hidden spaces, which is why they should be assessed carefully rather than treated casually.

Frequently asked questions

Questions people usually ask before booking.

If you are comparing options or trying to decide on the right next step for recurring ant activity, start here. These quick answers cover how ant problems keep returning, when activity is seasonal, and when it makes sense to book.

The colony or access point often remains active if only the visible ants are treated.

Seasonal activity is common, but indoor infestations can happen at other times too.

Yes. Some species, especially those nesting inside walls, warm buildings, or moisture-damaged areas, can remain active indoors through much of the year.

If you keep seeing trails, activity returns after store-bought treatment, or ants are showing up in multiple rooms, it is a good time to have the problem assessed properly.
